A rough and ready header for December because I can’t post unless the header’s done and I don’t need any more excuses not to catch up on reviews! (And obviously am looking for excuses to put off this week’s illustration friday picture).
This sketch is for an idea I’d like to try (by which I mean it is yet another Christmas card design which didn’t make it in time) but much more Renaissance tending into Byzantine with a touch of fire. Although the bird on the Queensland coat of arms has a very handsome wing design, so I might incorporate that as well.
This is a beautiful picture. It reminds me of a book I read in childhood called “Mail-Order Wings”, about a girl who gets…mail-order wings. The colors here are as she describes them in the book.
Thanks, crisitunity! I just had a quick look at in on Amazon and will have to keep my eye out for it. It looks like a interesting little read.
Well, I don’t know if it’ll stand up to an adult reading. I liked it a great deal when I was 12, but you know how rosy childhood books look from the present. At that time I still believed that mail-order wings were a possibility, however remote.
Dreamy pic.
