A combination of “Tam Lin” and “Gather ye rosebuds while ye may” for this week’s Illustration Friday topic, “Passion”. Another playing card design, of course. Maid of Flowers, I think. Or Maid of Roses. It is pen and ink, and watercolour, with (imitation) gold leaf.
This is a photograph of it still on the easel, as I’m working out how to take decent pictures of gold leaf. And how to get fine dust of gold out of places it shouldn’t be.
A slight change of pace here, with my bluebell tattoo design for the lovely author and academic Kim Wilkins (with a connection to her latest novel, Daughters of the Storm), as executed by Squid, of Bad Apples Tattoo Emporium, Taringa.
It is a terrifying honour to be asked to design a tattoo!
Pen (with a breaking nib), ink and watercolour pencils.
I’m about to paint sample pages for a large ink and watercolour illustration project, so this was my evening to break everything.
Happy new year!
Here is a glimpse of some works in progress.
